Iranian Rhythms & Culture
Iranian Rhythms & Culture is an engaging cultural performance and workshop that introduces students to Iranian traditions through movement, rhythm, storytelling, and expressive dance. Using the body as a language, students explore how culture, identity, and emotion are communicated through movement across history and contemporary life.
To ensure depth of learning, the workshop is designed around one selected dance focus, allowing students to engage meaningfully with a specific cultural perspective rather than a broad overview. Schools select the focus that best suits their students and learning goals.
The workshop focus options include:
• Persian Cultural Dance – Heritage & Identity
Explores how Persian dance reflects history, family, migration, and cultural continuity, supporting learning about identity formation and the evolving nature of cultural traditions.
• Sufi-Inspired Movement – Spirituality, Emotion & Meaning
Draws on Sufi philosophy to explore how movement can express inner life, spirituality, and emotional awareness, supporting reflection, wellbeing, and understanding belief systems through non-verbal expression.
• Persian Conceptual Dance – Movement with Meaning
Designed for upper primary and secondary students, using symbolic movement to explore themes such as freedom, restriction, voice, and self-expression, encouraging critical thinking and cultural discussion.
Through live demonstrations and guided participation, students gain insight into how movement can be a powerful form of storytelling and expression, particularly in contexts where artistic freedom, especially for women, has been restricted.
The program is interactive, age-appropriate, and adaptable, supporting intercultural understanding, creative arts learning, and student wellbeing.
