Music of Southern Italy
In this interactive Music of Southern Italy workshop, students will explore the rhythms and sounds of traditional music styles from the south of Italy. They will discover the instruments that shape this rich cultural heritage, including the castanettes, the diatonic accordion, the tamburello, the putipu and the ciaramella. Each instrument brings its own colour, energy and melody to the program.
With lively live music supporting them, students will then learn and practice the Tarantella, a joyful and energetic folk dance that reflects the spirit of southern Italian communities.
Highlights include:
- Traditional instruments from southern Italy
- Live demonstrations of rhythm, melody and musical style
- Cultural insights into southern Italian folk traditions
- Student participation with music and movement
- Learning the lively Tarantella dance
Music of Southern Italy offers a fun and engaging way for students to experience the region’s musical identity through sound, rhythm and dance.
