Sounds of India: Listen, Move and Create
A cultural music and wellbeing workshop with Dr M. Hariharan
Special Australian Tour | March 2027
Clap, move and discover the rich musical traditions of India with visiting Indian musician and educator Dr M. Hariharan. Through this interactive workshop, students explore captivating rhythms, expressive melodies and the distinctive sounds of Indian instruments, while learning about the cultural significance of music in India.
Through body percussion, musical call-and-response and shared listening, students become part of the music, creating rhythms of their own and combining sounds into a class soundscape. They also explore how music can encourage relaxation, mindful listening and emotional expression, gaining an appreciation of its connection to everyday wellbeing.
Along the way, students draw connections between Indian music and the musical traditions they know, developing cultural curiosity and intercultural understanding.
Tentative March 2027 tour dates:
- Brisbane: 5–11 March
- Adelaide: 12–18 March
- Melbourne: 18–25 March
