Rhythm of Nepal

Experience the heartbeat of the Himalayas with Rhythm of Nepal, a vibrant showcase led by Nepalese-born Dheeraj, recognised as Australia’s foremost Tabla player. Blending tradition, rhythm and contemporary flair, Dheeraj brings the rich sound worlds of Nepal and India to life.

The Tabla, celebrated as one of the fastest percussion instruments in the world, is known for its speed, precision and expressive range. Its Nepalese counterpart, the Madal, forms the rhythmic foundation of Nepalese folk music and is famously played during mountain journeys across the Himalayas.

In Rhythm of Nepal, Dheeraj will guide audiences through a dynamic fusion of cultural and modern sound.

Highlights include:

  • Demonstrations of Nepalese–Indian rhythmic traditions
  • Introduction to the Tabla, the fastest percussion instrument
  • The iconic Madal and its role in Nepalese folk culture
  • Hip‑hop inspired vocal percussion

Rhythm of Nepal is more than a performance—it’s a rhythmic journey through culture, creativity and the spirit of the Himalayas.
