Folkloric to Flamenco
Born in France to French and Sephardic‑Moroccan parents, Pauline Maudy brings a rich multicultural heritage to Folkloric to Flamenco. Pauline teaches Jewish Sephardic songs influenced by the musical traditions of Turkey, Greece and the Balkans, reflecting the diverse geography of the Sephardic diaspora. She is joined by John, a skilled Flamenco guitarist, who accompanies the music and teaches palmas — the rhythmic clapping that forms the heartbeat of Flamenco performance. This engaging workshop provides students with an authentic experience of both Sephardic and Spanish musical cultures.
Program Highlights:
- Introduction to Jewish Sephardic songs with Turkish, Greek and Balkan influences
- Live Flamenco guitar accompaniment by John
- Learning palmas (Flamenco rhythmic clapping)
- Exploration of Sephardic history and cultural storytelling through song
- Tailorable content for Spanish language students
Blending global musical traditions with vibrant performance, Folkloric to Flamenco offers students a unique cultural journey through voice, rhythm and heritage.
