French Rhythms & Culture
French Rhythms & Culture is an engaging, hands-on music and movement program that brings the vibrant café culture of Paris to life through live accordion performance, dance and rhythm. Students are immersed in the sounds, stories and atmosphere of traditional French musette, discovering how this lively style of music grew from working-class dance halls into a defining sound of French culture.
Students will experience:
- Live accordion performances that recreate the atmosphere of a Parisian café
- Simple dance demonstrations inspired by traditional French partner dances, with opportunities for student participation
- Interactive rhythm activities using clapping, movement and classroom percussion to explore the pulse of musette music
Key learning highlights:
- Understanding musical rhythm (including 3/4 time) through movement and listening
- Exploring how music supports social dance and community connection
- Discovering the history of the accordion in France and its role in musette culture
- Understanding how music reflects everyday life, celebration and identity in French communities
The program encourages active participation, creativity and cultural curiosity, giving students a joyful and memorable introduction to French music and culture.
