Maloya Infusion
Step into the world of Maloya, a vibrant Creole music and dance form originating from Réunion Island in the Indian Ocean. Rooted in the heritage of African, Malagasy, and Indian communities, Maloya began as an expression of resilience and storytelling, preserving cultural identity for generations.
Characterized by rhythmic beats, call-and-response singing, and expressive dance, Maloya uses traditional instruments such as:
- Roulèr – a deep, resonant bass drum
- Kayamb – a shaker crafted from sugar cane and seeds
- Pikèr – a bamboo percussion instrument
In this interactive workshop, participants will:
- Experience live Maloya performances
- Learn the history and cultural significance of this art form
- Join hands-on rhythm and movement activities
Program Details:
- Ideal for school assemblies, cultural days, and community events
Celebrate diversity and bring the soul of Réunion Island to your next event with this unforgettable Maloya experience!
